Help share Mineke Foundation’s work in Liberia through our English blog and newsletter—keeping donors, funders and friends engaged.
Help us tell the story of our work in Liberia! We're looking for a writer who will work closely with our team in Liberia and our international volunteers to write our monthly English blog and quarterly English newsletter. Through your words, our donors, funders and friends will remain updated about what's happening at Mineke Foundation.
What it involves
*Writing in publication-ready English (we translate to Dutch separately).
*Digging for the story: reviewing our team's monthly reports and reaching out directly to our team. You’re not the kind of person who waits to be briefed.
*Planning, researching and creating engaging written content that highlights programmes, impact stories, volunteer experiences, and community voices
*Coordinating with our other volunteers. We're a small team finding its rhythm, so there’s a lot of room to help shape how we tell our story.
In more detail: tasks include drafting blog posts and newsletter articles, interviewing team members and beneficiaries, coordinating with our team in Liberia for updates and ensuring that content reflects our mission and tone. The role also involves scheduling and publishing content, repurposing material for email updates and collaborating with other volunteers to align blog and newsletter content with broader outreach goals. You will also help maintain a consistent publishing calendar and propose new ideas to increase audience engagement and donor interest.
You are
*A strong English writer and engaging storyteller (we'll ask you for a writing sample).
*Willing to put in the time to get to know us and our work
*Comfortable working independently, taking initiative and communicating proactively across time zones
*Reliable and willing to volunteer for at least 6 months
*Experienced with content management tools or platforms (like WordPress, Elementor, Mailchimp)
*Available around 4 - 6 hours per month. Dutch is a welcome bonus, not required.
*Basic familiarity with video production is a plus, particularly for repurposing written content into short video scripts or supporting multimedia stories.

About Mineke Foundation Mineke Foundation works in Liberia to help young people and women become economically self-reliant, through education and entrepreneurship. We run three programmes:
*Damiefa School (affordable private education from kindergarten through Grade 9),
*the Women's Club (entrepreneurship training, vocational courses and microloans) and
*the Resource Center (a multifunctional space with a small library, games and toys, and digital skills training; still in development).

== De Damiefa School biedt betaalbaar privéonderwijs vanaf de kleuterschool tot en met de eerste drie klassen van de middelbare school. We gebruiken het nationale Liberiaanse curriculum, aangevuld met een Art Education programma wat ontwikkeld is door Nederlandse/Amerikaanse leerkrachten en een Reading Comprehension programma wat door Amerikaanse onderwijzers specifiek ontwikkeld is voor Liberia. Het is onze ambitie de school uit te laten groeien tot een volwaardige middelbare school.
== Onze Women’s Club biedt een ondernemerschapsprogramma en een sociaal educatief programma. Het ondernemerschapsprogramma omvat korte vakcursussen, business training & coaching, en microleningen. Het educatieve programma biedt maandelijkse workshops over onderwerpen als (reproductieve) gezondheid, vrouwenrechten, leiderschap en seksueel geweld tegen vrouwen. Er is daarnaast een spaarclub met peer-to-peer lending.
== Het Resource Center is een multifunctionele ruimte met een kleine bibliotheek/computerlokaal waar tevens employability trainingen voor jongeren gegeven worden. Vóór Covid boden we ook digital skills trainingen aan omliggende scholen en aan (jong)volwassenen uit de omgeving. We zullen dit t.z.t. weer gaan aanbieden.

Mineke Foundation is een onderscheiden stichting die bekend staat om haar kwaliteit en professionaliteit. Wij zijn een geaccrediteerde lokale Liberiaanse ngo, vakschool en particuliere school. Een klein, betrokken en gemotiveerd lokaal team voert onze projecten in Liberia uit.
De Nederlandse stichting bestaat uit internationale vrijwilligers en ondersteunt ons team in Liberia, o.a. met fondsenwerving, social media & communicatie en kennisoverdracht. Beide teams werken nauw samen.
Onze leuke en enthousiaste vrijwilligers zorgen ervoor dat je je snel thuis voelt! We werken allemaal vanuit huis en hebben regelmatig Zoom calls, ook met ons team in Liberia. Vrijwilligers die in Nederland wonen ontmoeten elkaar meestal twee keer per jaar. Goed om te weten: we spreken zowel Nederlands als Engels, maar spreken tijdens calls & vergaderingen meestal Engels.
Mineke Foundation is in 2009 opgericht door Tonia Dabwe om voort te bouwen op het werk dat haar ouders eind jaren '60 in Liberia zijn gestart. De stichting is vernoemd naar Tonia's Nederlandse moeder die sinds de burgeroorlog in Liberia vermist wordt.
